A new study by The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) stated that while eating disorders are generally more common in young children, new evidence shows that perimenopause or midlife is a risky time to develop unhealthy eating habits as well.
Women experiencing symptoms of perimenopause undergo various hormonal and physical changes. As a result, they may become more concerned about their physique and experience body dissatisfaction. It includes a strong fear of weight gain and not being in control of eating habits.
Hence, this fear may eventually lead to unhealthy eating habits. According to the study, statistics show that perimenopausal women have the most dysregulated eating behaviors than other women, such as calorie monitoring or following specific diets.
